The second largest stadium
in NCAA
Division II, Kimbrough Memorial Stadium has a seating capacity of
20,000 and has
stood as a symbol of pride for West Texas A&M University fans since
1959.
A new synthetic
granular-infilled
playing surface was installed during the summer of 2003 at a cost of
$750,000. The new surface is soccer-friendly and
has enabled the men's and
women's soccer programs to now call Kimbrough home.
The stadium also
hosts high school football and soccer games, band competitions and a
variety of other events.
First United Bank

Basketball
The First United Bank Center opened on
January
26, 2002 to a capacity crowd of over 5,000 who jammed into the arena for the
inaugural basketball games. Featuring
a state-of-the-art sound system and scoreboard with a large video
screen, the
75,000 square foot building is the place to be for exciting Lone Star
Conference
basketball.
The arena hosts
WTAMU
graduation, concerts, high school basketball playoffs and other events. The 2002 NCAA Division II National Championship
Volleyball tournament was
also held in the center.
Bill Cosby, Willie Nelson, Pat Green, Martina McBride, Buddy Jewell, Merle Haggard and the superstars of World Wrestling Entertainment are among the headliners that have performed at the First United Bank Center.

Fieldhouse, aka "The Box"
Home of Lady Buff
Volleyball
With the opening of the First United Bank Center in
2002, the
WTAMU Fieldhouse was renovated to become one of a select few
"volleyball-only"
arenas in NCAA Division II. Seating just over
2,000, "The Box" provides fans an
opportunity to virtually sit on the court and cheer on the perennial
championship-contending Lady Buff volleyball team.
The Box has a long and rich
history at
WTAMU. Built in 1950, the
Fieldhouse was the home of championship Buff & Lady Buff basketball
for half a century. It has also seen its fair share of concerts and
other entertainment, as performers such George Strait, Willie Nelson,
John Denver, Ike & Tina Turner and comedian Steve Martin have
played the Fieldhouse. President Gerald Ford delivered an address in
The Box in 1976.
Potter County Memorial Stadium
Home of Buffalo Baseball
Home to the Buffalo Baseball team, Potter County Memorial stadium holds 7,000 fans. A pitcher's park and the Buffs home the past season, Potter County Memorial Stadium also hosts United League Baseball's Amarillo Dillas. The stadium is located in Amarillo next to Dick Bivins Stadium and the Tri-State Fairgrounds.

Home to WTAMU Equestrian
Home of the 2003 co-national champion
WTAMU Equestrian team and the World
Champion Horse Judging team, the WTAMU Horse Center features a 200' x
105' indoor arena, two outdoor lighted arenas, round pen, hitchcock
pen, and approximately 50 western and hunter horses. A
variety of horse-related events, including clinics, seminars, Western
and Hunter shows, and judging contests, are conducted at the Horse
Center in
addition to University classes.

Paloma Golf Club

Golf
The home course of WTAMU
Golf is La
Paloma Golf Club in Amarillo. La Paloma is a private club with a very
tough layout that is always in great condition. LPGC is a links style
design with mounding, bunkering, thick rough, tiered greens and several
carries
over water. It has bent grass greens, blue grass fairways, and fescue
rough. The cool season grasses do not go dormant resulting in great
conditions even late in the fall, winter, and spring.
Joe
Kerbel Weight Training Center
In 2001, WTAMU
formally opened
the Joe Kerbel Weight Training Center for the use of all the
intercollegiate
athletic teams at West Texas A&M. Named for
the legendary football coach who led the Buffaloes
in the 1960's, the center offers a full array of weight training
equipment.
The center was
funded
through the generosity of dozens of former WT football players who
played for
Coach Kerbel.
Virgil
Henson Activities Center
The 275,000 square
foot
Activities Center is available for use by all students at WTAMU
including the
intercollegiate athletic teams.
Currently in
Phase II of a
three-part renovation, the Activities Center features a swimming area,
weight
and cardio training center, bowling lanes, racquetball and squash
courts and
30,000 square foot all-purpose room for basketball, volleyball and
other
activities. When renovation is
complete, the Center will boast a larger fitness area, an aerobics
center and an
indoor running track.
The Activities
Center also
houses the administrative offices of the Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics, as well as the football, soccer, golf, cross-country and
baseball
offices.
Lady Buff Yard
Home to Lady Buff Softball
The Lady Buff Yard is home to the softball team. The Yard has bleacher seating for 500 and provides an intimate setting for fans to see Lone Star Conference ball up-close. A hitter's park with the prevailing winds blowing out, fans often enjoy double-digit games with lots of runs and thrilling finishes. The field also features and outdoor batting cage.
