RiverHawk Offense Too Much For Buffs in 26-12 Loss
April 20, 2008
CANYON, Texas - The defensive struggles for the Buffalo baseball team continued Sunday afternoon at Conner Park, as the West Texas A&M baseball team committed six errors and allowed 11 unearned runs in rout to a 26-12 loss to Northeastern State. The loss dropped the Buffs to 9-40 on the season with a 6-33 record in the Lone Star Conference. West Texas A&M fell behind early, as the RiverHawks plated four runs before the Buffs answered with seven spot in the bottom of the second inning to take a 7-4 lead. Kevin Els and Greg Shanks led off the second inning with back-to-back homers, followed by consecutive doubles by Ben Edge and Kelly Starr. Senior Brian Schupp continued the Buffs' half of the second with a two-run home run to left center. The dinger gives Schupp 17 on the season and ties him with Grady Benton ('95) for second all-time in school history for homeruns in a season. Northeastern pounded out 20 hits on the day, including three home runs to wrap up game four of the series. WT plated five runs in the middle three innings, but the RiverHawks bats were too much, scoring 22 runs in the final five innings including seven in the fourth and eight in the sixth. The Buffs wrap up their season against Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico next weekend with a four-game series starting Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. |
