Box Score

CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M baseball team dropped a pair of games to Lone Star Conference foe Eastern New Mexico on Friday afternoon at Conner Park. To start the day, the Buffs fell, 23-5, and in game two the Greyhounds' hot bats were too much for WT, as the hosts dropped their second game of the day, 14-4.

The Buffs return to action Saturday afternoon against ENMU with first pitch of a doubleheader scheduled for 2 p.m. Before game one, WT will recognize its eight seniors in their final games in Canyon.

Game 1 Recap (Eastern New Mexico 23, West Texas A&M 5)
Second baseman Brian Schupp connected on his 18th home run of the season in the top of the third inning, but the Eastern offense was too much for the Buffs as they dropped the opening game of a doubleheader 23-5.

Schupp would add his school record 19th home run during the day's second game.

In the bottom of the second inning, WT tied the game at 2-2 with a Kent Wright double to left center scoring Jake Parsons, but ENMU answered back in the third with two runs on a Derrick Kennedy homer to right field.

The Greyhounds blew the game open in the next five innings, pounding out 17 hits and 19 runs in rout to dropping WT's record to 9-40 and 6-34 in the LSC. Buffalo starter Billy Zeleznak (3-7) took the loss on the mound, allowing 13 hits in four innings.

Game 2 Recap (Eastern New Mexico 14, West Texas A&M 4)
The ENMU offense scored early and often in game two of a doubleheader as the Greyhounds pounded out 18 hits in rout to a 14-4 victory in the nightcap at Conner Park. WT starter Chris Gutierrez falls to 0-6 on the year, giving up six hits and five runs in two of work before leaving the game in the third after being hit by a line drive.

Game two saw WT fall behind by a score of 5-0, but the Buffs battled back to cut the deficit to only two with RBI doubles by Kevin Els and Ben Edge. The Hounds, however, secured the victory with a five-run seventh inning, highlighted by Canyon High graduate Clayton Young's three run home run to right field.

The win improved ENMU to 24-26 on the season with a 17-21 mark in the LSC, while the Buffs fall to 9-41 and 6-35.
