Thornberry was a standout for the Clarendon (Texas) HS Broncos where he played point guard on the varsity squad. He was selected preseason all-State in both football and basketball in addition to garnering all-District honors for his efforts on the court. An all-around athlete, he also lettered in football, golf, track & field, tennis and baseball.
