General: This likeable Martin heads into 2008 as a fifth-year senior, having been granted an extra year after missing all of the 2005 season due to injury. His talents lend him to be both a possession-type receiver as well as a true deep threat. Martin has earned all-America mentions in each of the past two seasons (second-team in 2006 and honorable mention in 2007) and he enters the 2008 campaign needing just 436 yards and 72 catches to top the WTAMU career list in both categories. 2007: Limited to 11 games due to a shoulder injury (he did not see action against Northeastern State or Texas A&M-Kingsville), Martin nonetheless grabbed season totals of 67 catches for 927 yards and 11 TDs. For the year, he posted four 100-receiving yard games, including 10 receptions for 162 yards and two TDs in the season-opener against South Dakota, six catches for 107 yards, two TDs against Adams State, five catches for 112 yards and two TDs vs. Central Oklahoma, and14 grabs for 157 yards and one TD at Tarleton State. Martin was rewarded with D2Football.com honorable mention all-America honors in addition to being a first-team all-LSC selection 2006: Martin came into his own by grabbing 73 receptions, 10 touchdowns and a Lone Star Conference-leading 1,169 receiving yards. For the year, he averaged 16 yards per catch and 89.9 receiving yards per contest to earn several all-America honors, including Daktronics (second team), Don Hansen's Football Gazette (second team) and D2Football.com (honorable mention). He topped the 100-yard receiving mark six times during the season. He got off to a quick start, collecting four receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns, including a season-long 57 yard grab, during the season-opener against Mesa State. Martin had a string of four consecutive 100+ yard receiving games, with 103 yards against Eastern New Mexico, a season-high 150 yards and one TD on eight catches against Abilene Christian, a season-high nine receptions for 117 yards at Angelo State and completed the string of century mark receiving games with seven receptions for 136 yards at Central Oklahoma. He proved big for WT in the NCAA Playoffs against ACU, tying a season-high nine catches for 119 yards and a pair of TDs. He was selected first-team all-LSC to go along with first-team Daktronics All-Southwest Region accolades. Named Team Offensive MVP, Martin was also honored for his efforts in the classroom, being selected first-team Academic All-LSC. 2005: Medical Redshirt. 2004: Martin saw action in five games, with nine catches for 145 yards (16.1 ypc) and one TD. Recorded a 45-yard reception at ENMU. He had a season-best four receptions for 81 yards in that same game. 2003: Redshirt season. High School: Martin, who originally hails from Walla Walla, Wash., moved with his family to Farmington, N.M. as a youngster. He earned all-State honors as both a receiver and cornerback. He was a North All-Star selection and earned both offensive and defensive first-team all-District honors and was named district Defensive Back of the Year. An all-around athlete, Martin also lettered three years each in basketball and track. He was a state champion in track and was a second-team all-District selection in basketball. Major: Solid in the classroom, Martin was a 2007 first-team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic all-District 6 selection, having earned his bachelor's degree in mass communications/broadcasting in May of 2007. He is currently attending graduate school while pursuing a degree in Sports Business. |
