CANYON, Texas - A second place finish by sophomore Shannon Lee in Advanced Western Horsemanship garnered her a reserve national championship over the weekend at the Equestrian National Championships in Springfield, Mass. However, as a team WTAMU had a heartbreaking performance, as the Hunt Seat Team was 13th, and the Western squad finished in sixth place.

Sophomore and Amarillo native Laura Wilder, who was the top finisher for the Hunt Seat Team placed sixth in the Walk Trot Canter Event. In the Western Show, junior Courtney Douglas was third in the Advanced Horsemanship Event, which led the Lady Buffs. Also placing for WTAMU in the Western Event were juniors Whitney Agee and Thompson, who finished fourth, while sophomore Whitney Fouts was sixth in the Open Horsemanship.

As individuals, Lee won a reserve national championship, while Brown earned a third place finish in Novice Equitation Over Fences and Thompson placed third in Intermediate Horsemanship.
