Lady Buffs' Season Ends with Double Overtime Setback to Metro State
Nov. 9, 2007
DENVER, Colo. - For 103 minutes the Lady Buffs gave defending National Champion Metro State all they could handle on their own field, but when the final whistle sounded, it was the Roadrunners who escaped with a 1-0 victory in the quarterfinals of the NCAA-II Midwest Regional. For much of the match, the Roadrunners were stifled by the marvelous play of Lady Buff goalkeeper Lisha Jungman - who posted eight saves in the game - but they were finally to able to get the game-winning tally at the 103:58 mark of the second overtime. Despite being outshot 15-6, Jungman kept WT in the match until forward Katie Kilbey served a corner kick into the goal box and Becca Mays was able to find the back of the net for the 18th time this season to lift the Roadrunners to victory. The Lady Buffs were able to generate several offensive chances led by sophomore forward Kendal Kitchens, who led the team with three shots in the match. After posting an incredible run that saw them become the first ever No. 6 seed to emerge victorious at the Lone Star Conference Championships and claiming the program's fourth LSC title in its 12-year history, the Lady Buffs finish the 2007 season with an overall record of 13-7-1. The Lady Buffs are a young team that stands to return virtually all of their firepower from this season, only losing one senior, goalkeeper Sarah Pipkin, and returning 23 women. |
