CANYON, Texas - After not being able to cash in on several opportunities during the first game of a doubleheader, which it dropped by a score of 2-0, the West Texas A&M softball exploded for nine runs in five innings to defeat Texas A&M-Kingsville 9-0 at Lady Buff Yard.

The split leaves the Lady Buffs' overall record this season at 12-10 and the team's mark in Lone Star Conference South Division games at 3-2. Texas A&M-Kingsville, meanwhile, ends the day with a 11-13 overall and a 4-1 in league play.

The two teams will square off in the rubber game of the series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Game #1 Recap - (Texas AM-Kingsville 2, West Texas A&M 0)
Despite collecting nine hits in the game, the Lady Buffs were unable to put any runs on the scoreboard and a two-run sixth inning from TAMU-Kingsville proved to be the deciding factor in a 2-0 loss.

Sophomore catcher Amber Farr collected three hits, but the Javelinas got a two-out, two-run single from Jessika Cantu to put the only runs of the game in the books.

WT freshman pitcher Shannon O'Dea (6-4) took the loss in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits.

Game #2 Recap - (West Texas A&M 9, Texas A&M-Kingsville 0 - Five innings)
The Lady Buffs used the long ball to light up the scoreboard in the second game of the twin bill, getting three home runs in a 9-0, five inning victory.

After a scoreless opening two innings, the Lady Buffs came to bat in the bottom of the third and sophomore catcher Dani Couger put the first WT runs of the day on the scoreboard as she slammed her first home run of the season with one out and a runner on first.

The long ball action continued in the third innings as freshmen Kaitlyn Witte and Audrey Wallace slammed back-to-back solo home runs to put the Lady Buffs up 4-0.

In the fourth inning, the Lady Buffs took advantage of some sloppy defensive play from the Javelinas, who committed four errors in the frame, to tack on five runs to their lead. Jessica Ruzicki collected a two-run single in frame.

Senior Andrea Renteria (2-3) picked up the win, limiting Kingsville to only three hits in five innings of work.
