Lady Buffs Drop a Pair of Games to Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. - The West Texas A&M softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Stadium with the Lady Buffs falling in game one by a count of 2-0 before losing the nightcap in extra innings, 4-3.

The two teams are back in action on Thursday with a doubleheader which is slated to begin at noon from FHSU's Tiger Stadium.

Game #1 Recap - (Fort Hays State 2, West Texas A&M 0)
Despite getting a solid outing in the pitching circle from freshman Chantel Pearson, the Lady Buff offense could never find its groove in day's first game, collecting only three hits in a 2-0 shutout loss.

Pearson, struck out seven and allowed only five hits in the complete game effort, but FHSU's Emily Rockefeller keep WT off the scoreboard.

Game #2 Recap - (Fort Hays State 4, West Texas A&M 3 - 8 Innings)
The Lady Buffs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, scoring a sacrifice fly from sophomore catcher Dani Couger and a Lady Tiger error in the top of the first, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead after a half inning of play.

Fort Hays State retaliated with a run in the bottom of the third and two more in the sixth inning to carry a 3-2 advantage to the seventh. During the frame, sophomore Amber Farr led off with a triple and came home with the tying-run on a RBI single from Jessica Ruzicki in the next at bat.

After a scoreless top of the eighth, the Lady Tigers were able to plate an unearned run off WT reliever Andrea Renteria to complete the doubleheader sweep.
