Lady Buff Cross Country Signs Two for Upcoming Season

Feb. 15, 2008

CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M women's cross country team announced this week the signing of two student-athletes who are set to join the Lady Buffs. Allie Reyna and Jeniffer Cherono have each committed to WT with national letters of intent and will enroll in school and compete for the squad when classes begin next August.

"Both of the girls who have committed can come in and contribute to our team immediately," said head coach Kimberly Dudley. "With the returners that we have coming back and the addition of Allie and Jeniffer, we have a really good chance to compete for the Lone Star Conference Championship next fall."

Reyna joins WT after a standout career at Ralls High School in Ralls, Texas, where she competed in basketball, softball, tennis and track & field as well as cross country. On the course, she helped lead RHS to a state runner-up finish in 2006 with her second consecutive third place individual finish at the state meet. Reyna was also a standout on the basketball court, where she garnered District Offensive MVP honors twice and was selected as an Academic All-District selection all four years of her prep career.

Cherono, a native of Kenya, will be a junior next year for WT as she spent last two seasons as at Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kan. A standout in several events, she helped lead the junior college to a third place finish in the 2007 track & field National Championship. Cherono, who placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and seventh in the 5,000-meter run at last year's NJCAA National Championship meet, also recorded a personal-best time of 17:55 in the 5k race at the event.
